Kevin: OK, sure. My grandfather died in 1992, and before he died he made this tape of these stories that he had never told anyone before. And I didn't even hear the tape until about five or six years later. And, I don't know, just when I heard it, I wasn't involved in film in any way, but I just got the idea to make the film. And the basic working process was that I lived in a van for about a year and drove around the country to the various places that he talked about and just kind of waited to see what was evocative or what resonated with the stories and filmed it and did the music as well at that time and then put it all together.
